Nawal Ahmed is a public health professional with Ramsey County Public Health, where she has spent the past five years focusing on environmental health, particularly waste reduction and environmental justice.

She holds a biology degree and completed graduate studies in public health with a focus on environmental health and infectious diseases. Her background includes work with two nonprofits: one addressing infectious disease among immigrant communities in Minnesota, and another supporting African immigrant entrepreneurs in the state.

While her work hasn’t centered on mental health, Nawal brings a strong whole-person health perspective to Bridge and Bloom. She believes that physical, mental, spiritual, and environmental health are deeply interconnected and that the environments we live in profoundly impact our well-being. From the healing power of nature to the stress of urban environments with limited green space, she sees environmental factors as essential to understanding health.

As a person of East African descent, Nawal has witnessed the mental health challenges in her community and is committed to advocating for equitable, culturally responsive solutions. She brings expertise in public health framework, environmental justice, and community engagement to the board.

Outside of work, she enjoys time with family and friends, reading, and hiking.
